Explore Counselling without Labels

woman having counselling

To have counselling you don’t have to come with a label such as anxiety or depression, you can come to explore anything that is concerning you and making you unhappy.

We might believe that we can’t have counselling because we don’t fall into a particular category or area, such as anxiety or depression. We might not want the label and that is OK.

Labels can be very useful as short cuts to general understanding. But they can also get in the way, enabling us to maintain behaviours, rather than exploring and getting to the core of the issue. When we recognise the heart of the problem through counselling, we can start to make healthy changes.

You might say that you can’t put a label how you feel and here are some examples :

  • I don’t feel like me any more and I’m not sure why
  • I feel generally unhappy, but I wouldn’t call it depression or anxiety
  • I want personal development, I want to move forward in life (in my relationships or at work), and want someone to talk to about it
  • Since I lost my dog I feel like I’m grieving, but I keep getting told it was only a pet it wasn’t a friend or a member of my family
  • I am overwhelmed by life and don’t know where to start
  • I’m caring for a relative and feel overwhelmed, my own life seems to be disappearing, but they need me and I don’t want to let them down
  • The things I once enjoyed no longer resonate with me, or make me happy
  • I keep getting the same thoughts going round and round in my head and I can’t stop them
  • Life feels flat and I don’t know how to make myself feel better
  • I’ve got so much on my plate I don’t know where to turn next
  • There is no one in my life who has the time or inclination to listen to me, I need someone to talk to about how I feel and what is going on for me
  • I have friends, but no one I can talk to about this
  • I feel like I’m always in the wrong or getting things wrong
  • My relationship isn’t working and I need someone I can trust to talk to
  • I don’t have anyone who will understand how I feel
  • I don’t feel I need counselling because I don’t feel there is anything really wrong, but I do need someone to talk to.
  • I’m sick of to talking to friends about how I feel/ what’s happened to me and I think they are getting fed up that I can’t seem to move past this
  • My life just isn’t working for me
  • I feel hopeless

For any of these reasons and many more, counselling can help you to make changes and feel better
